Bronchitis

Bronchitis can be acute or chronic, with symptoms that include a persistent cough, production of mucus (sputum), shortness of breath, and chest discomfort. Acute bronchitis is usually caused by viral infections, while chronic bronchitis often results from long-term irritation of the airways, such as smoking or exposure to pollutants. Herbal remedies like mullein (Verbascum thapsus) and elecampane (Inula helenium) are traditionally used to soothe the respiratory tract, promote expectoration, and reduce inflammation. Thyme (Thymus vulgaris) has antibacterial properties and is often used to help loosen mucus and relieve coughing. Licorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) can also be used to coat and soothe irritated bronchial tissues, providing relief from discomfort.

Maintaining adequate hydration, using steam inhalation, and avoiding respiratory irritants are important supportive measures to alleviate symptoms and promote recovery from bronchitis.
