Medicinal Action

Galactogogue (Increase breast milk)
Galactagogues are commonly used by individuals experiencing low milk supply or wanting to enhance lactation for breastfeeding. These substances, which may be herbs, medications, or foods, work by influencing hormonal pathways, particularly prolactin and oxytocin levels. Herbal galactagogues, such as fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum) and blessed thistle (Cnicus benedictus), are widely used in traditional and holistic medicine. While generally supportive, galactagogues should be paired with proper hydration, nutrition, and nursing practices for optimal effectiveness.
