Wound Healing

Wound healing is a complex biological process that aims to restore the function and structure of damaged skin or tissues. The process involves several phases:

Inflammation: The body’s immune response is activated to cleanse the wound of pathogens, debris, and dead cells.
Tissue Formation: During this phase, new cells are formed to replace the damaged ones. Collagen production and the growth of new blood vessels are essential components of this stage.
Remodeling: The newly formed tissue matures and strengthens, restoring skin integrity.
Herbal remedies that are traditionally used to support wound healing include calendula (Calendula officinalis), which has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties that promote faster healing, and comfrey (Symphytum officinale), which contains allantoin that stimulates cell regeneration. Plantago major (common plantain) is used to hydrate and protect the wound, helping to soothe irritation and promote recovery. Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) helps stop bleeding and encourages the healing process by supporting the formation of new tissue.

Wound healing can also be supported by maintaining proper hygiene, keeping the wound moist but clean, and ensuring an adequate intake of nutrients such as vitamin C, zinc, and protein, which are critical for tissue repair.
